Morocco Struggles to Contain COVID-19 Spread as Deconfinement Nears

Faced with the violation of containment measures and the multiplication of coronavirus hotspots, the director of the Department of Epidemiology and Disease Control at the Ministry of Health said that Morocco will not be able to stop the spread of the virus within the desired time frame.
"If preventive measures and barrier gestures are not adopted, we will not be able to stop the virus in the shortest possible time," insists Mohamed Lyoubi. He noted that the number of cases of contamination continues to follow a worrying upward trend. Yet the country is less than 10 days away from the start of the deconfinement process.
"The virus continues to spread under singular and precise conditions," said the specialist, who calls on the population to attach importance to compliance with the rules of health confinement.
On Monday, Morocco recorded 218 new cases of contamination, bringing the total to 6,281 and 196 of them were discovered among relatives, or no less than 90% of them.
The breakdown of these cases recorded on Monday is as follows: Casablanca-Settat, 1,732 (+110) which currently accounts for 28% of cases nationwide, Fès-Meknès, 889 (+34); Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, 578 (+29); Marrakech-Safi, 1,206 (+16 second most affected region), Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, 902 (+13); Draa Tafilalet, 571 (+12); Mellal-Khénifra, 107 (+2) and Souss-Massa, 71 (+2).
