Morocco Strengthens Cybersecurity Laws to Protect National Information Systems

Morocco is making the fight against cyberattacks and cybercrimes a priority. The government has initiated a cybersecurity-focused bill approved at the Cabinet meeting on Monday, July 6, chaired by King Mohammed VI.
The objective of the project is to "establish a legal framework to strengthen the security of information systems of state administrations, local authorities, public institutions and enterprises, as well as telecommunications operators".
"This legislation is likely to consolidate the cyber space and electronic information services," said security expert Abdellah Rami in an interview with the newspaper Al Ahdath Al Maghrebia.
"Cybernetics is now part of the national security system since it concerns one of the main elements of state governance, namely the computer system," he assured, adding that the computer is one of the fundamental tools that the state uses to manage its vital and main sectors, etc.
Validated at the last Cabinet meeting, this cybersecurity bill allows Morocco to toughen its legal arsenal in the fight against cyberattacks and cybercrimes.
