Morocco Slips to 61st in Global Military Power Rankings, Far Behind Regional Rival Algeria

Morocco ranks 61st in the 2023 ranking of the world’s great military powers, losing six places. The United States retains, and by far, the first place.
With a defense budget of $1.39 billion and 150,000 soldiers, Morocco ranks 61st in the 2023 ranking of the world’s great military powers compiled by the specialized website Global Firepower, which identifies among 140 countries in the world, those with very advanced means to determine the most efficient military powers each year. The kingdom has thus gone from 55th place to 61st, a regression of 6 places compared to 2022. The Royal Armed Forces have 31,972 armored vehicles, 453 self-propelled artillery units and 211 artillery trailers. In the Middle East and North Africa, Morocco ranks 6th, far behind Egypt (14th worldwide with a defense budget of $11.20 billion) which occupies the first place. It is followed by Saudi Arabia (22nd), Algeria (26th), Iraq (45th) and the United Arab Emirates (56th).
With 1.4 million active soldiers, 440,000 reservists and a defense budget of $770 billion, the United States tops the Global Firepower ranking. They are followed by Russia (850,000 soldiers, 250,000 reservists, a defense budget of $154 billion in 2022), China (2 million soldiers, 510,000 reservists, a budget of $250.2 billion) and India (1.45 million soldiers, 1.15 million reservists, a defense budget of $49.6 billion). Then come Japan (240,000 soldiers, 55,000 reservists for a defense budget of $47.5 billion), South Korea (555,000 soldiers, 500,000 reservists, for a defense budget of $46.3 billion) and France (200,000 soldiers for 35,000 reservists and a defense budget of $40.9 billion).
