Morocco Simplifies Customs Process for Expatriates Entering with Vehicles

Moroccans living abroad who were used to filling out the long green forms (D16) (with the fear that goes with it!) upon entering Morocco will not be unhappy to learn that this formality has been replaced by another, much simpler one. Although the Moroccan administration could have gone even further.

Since the beginning of this year, Moroccans living abroad no longer fill out the green customs forms, this task now being assigned to the customs officers. Composed of three sheets, one was kept at the entrance by customs, two others were returned to the owner with precise information about his vehicle. When leaving Morocco, the second sheet was returned to the customs and the last one was kept by the vehicle owner. It was stamped as proof.

This procedure has been over since the beginning of the year. Upon entering Moroccan territory (Tanger-Med, Ceuta, Nador...), the customs officers ask for the passport as well as the vehicle registration certificate to enter the information into their system. They are then provided with a small "bank card" sized card on which all the information about the vehicle and its owner is found:

• Name and first name
• Registration number (country)
• Passport number (country)
• Validity period
• A barcode, no doubt for the internal needs of the Moroccan customs
• Date of entry into Moroccan territory.

This card must be kept in a safe place and given its fragility, it will be necessary to be careful not to crumple it (advice from a customs officer). It is signed by another customs officer, at least as far as Tanger-Med is concerned, who ensures that the information is correct, in particular the registration number.

When leaving Morocco, this card must be presented again to the Moroccan customs and the agent checks the vehicle and "removes it" from the system. To avoid mistakes and make customs officers more accountable, his name is stamped on the back of this card with his signature (see photo below). We strongly advise you to keep this card, a mistake can happen quickly and the problems that go with it...
