Morocco Signs Aviation and Defense Deal with Brazil’s Embraer

The Moroccan government signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding with the Brazilian company Embraer for the realization of projects in the fields of commercial aviation, defense and urban air mobility.
Signed on the sidelines of the Marrakech Aviation Show, the agreement aims to stimulate innovation, economic growth and contribute to job creation, and promote the development of local skills. The two parties have agreed to strengthen their cooperation in terms of training, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), but also in research and technology, particularly in the areas of industrial decarbonization, clean mobility, sustainable aviation and sustainable aviation fuels, according to a press release.
These projects should generate nearly $300 million in revenue and 300 jobs by 2030, and $1 billion and 1,000 jobs by 2035. This agreement with Embraer is "historic," says Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade. "This collaboration not only confirms the strength of our Moroccan industrial system, but also places us as a key player in the global aerospace industry. [...] This agreement will foster stronger synergies between Morocco and Embraer, a leader in the sector, which will help accelerate our common ambitions..."
Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, welcomed this unique opportunity to develop a partnership with the Moroccan aerospace industry. "Morocco is on its way to becoming a strategic partner for Embraer Defense & Security, and we are committed to working closely with the Royal Moroccan Air Force to make the C-390 aircraft a benchmark to strengthen its future tactical air transport capabilities. Our support for its fleet will include maintenance, logistics and comprehensive training," said Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security.
Founded in 1969, Embraer is a Brazilian aerospace company specializing in civil (commercial) and fighter aircraft. The company has already produced more than 8,000 aircraft. It is present in America, Africa, Asia and Europe.
