Morocco Shortens Medical School to 6 Years in Healthcare Reform Push

The Moroccan government plans to reform medical studies. From now on, the duration of medical training will be reduced from 7 years to 6 years.
A new change is taking place in medical training. In a note addressed to the presidents of public universities, Abdellatif Miraoui, Minister of Higher Education, announces that the duration of the university course in medicine will be reduced from 7 years to 6 years. "This measure is part of the implementation of a royal project, that of the generalization of social coverage, and in particular the axis relating to the upgrading of the health system and the improvement of care services for all categories of the population who are (or will be) concerned by the current deployment of compulsory health insurance (AMO)," specifies this note.
The minister also announces an increase in the number of registrations that will be open to students in the faculties of medicine, pharmacy and dentistry. He also assured that all the financial and pedagogical means necessary to accompany this reform will be mobilized through a contractual program linking the government to the universities and faculties concerned.
