Morocco Shelves Controversial Social Media Law Amid Health Emergency

The government has finally decided to postpone sine die the draft law 22.20 on social networks in Morocco.
In a statement to the MAP, the Minister of Justice pleaded with the Head of Government and the members of the inter-ministerial commission to postpone the work of this commission on the draft law 22.20, due to the particular situation that Morocco is going through in the context of the state of health emergency.
According to the minister, such an approach "stems from our concern to ensure that the final version of the draft is in line with the relevant constitutional principles and that it can consolidate the achievements of our country in the field of human rights".
It should be noted that this project has sparked lively controversy and denunciations, treating it as a real "muzzle" aimed at silencing any protest on social networks.
