Morocco’s Settat Province Faces Rising Threat of Scorpion and Snake Attacks

The increase in cases of scorpion stings and snake bites in the province of Settat is a concern for MP Mustapha Kacimi of the Istiqlal group in the House of Representatives, who has addressed a written question on this subject to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
"The inhabitants of the constituency of Beni Meskine in Bouregrag in particular, and of the province of Settat in general, are experiencing a disaster due to the spread of scorpions and venomous insects," Kacimi said in his written question, specifying that "scorpions and venomous insects pose a great danger to the health and safety of the inhabitants, especially children and the elderly."
Several cases of scorpion stings have been recorded in this region in recent weeks, the MP added, stating that these stings "have caused severe symptoms requiring in most cases admission to the emergency room" and have led to deaths, "especially among children." The tragedy is that the central hospitals of Bouregrag and Settat are sorely lacking in anti-venom serums against scorpion stings, Kacimi denounced.
Faced with this worrying situation, the Istiqlal MP is asking the Ministry of Health to take measures, in coordination with the competent services of the province of Settat, to make anti-venom serums against scorpion stings and snake bites available to the province’s hospital centers.
