Morocco Sets Eid al-Adha Date for June 29, 2023

The date of Eid al-Adha in Morocco is now known. It has just been announced by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
According to the ministry, the crescent moon announcing the month of Dhu Al-Hijjah of the year 1444 of the Hijri calendar was not observed on Sunday evening (June 18).
As a result, the month of Dhu Al-Qi’dah 1444 H will have lasted 30 days and the 1st of Dhu Al-Hijjah will be Tuesday, June 20, 2023, and Eid Al-Adha will consequently be celebrated on the 10th of Dhu Al-Hijjah 1444 corresponding to June 29, 2023.
The date had already been revealed by astronomical calculations
"The crescent will be too young (between 2:50 pm in Oujda and 3:47 pm) to be observed at sunset on June 18. However, it will be visible from the next day, June 19," Hassan Talibi, a member of the Islamic crescent observation project, had told Médias24. Thus, the 1st of Dhu Al-Hijjah will correspond to Tuesday, June 20. Eid al-Adha will therefore be celebrated on Thursday, June 29, corresponding to the 10th of Dhu Al-Hijjah, he had revealed.
