Morocco Set to Reopen Airspace, Welcome International Tourists with Vaccination Requirements

A few days before the reopening of its airspace, Morocco is "eagerly" awaiting French tourists, as well as those from other countries. Already, all operators are working to welcome them.

Morocco will reopen its airspace on February 7. "From Monday, we will be able to start receiving travelers of any nationality with two simple conditions: a vaccination pass at boarding and a negative PCR test less than 48 hours old," explains Adel El Fakir, director general of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), on BFMTV. Travelers may undergo random tests. The one who tests positive for Covid-19 will be contacted at their place of residence "and will be confined to their place of residence until they have a negative test," adds the official.

France has in the meantime welcomed the announcement of the reopening of Moroccan air borders. In total, more than 13 million visitors, including 4.2 million French - Morocco’s top visitors - arrived in the kingdom each year before the Covid-19 health crisis. "Morocco is in great anticipation and the entire tourism ecosystem is eagerly awaiting this important day. All operators are preparing this welcome to resume the great love story between French tourists and Morocco," emphasizes Adel El Fakir.

The ONMT is counting on a surge in bookings. However, one challenge remains: the number of flights that will be scheduled. This number "will be the key to this recovery, companies like Air France, Royal Air Maroc and Transavia have already restored capacity and the entire capacity is returning on other European companies following the announcements on Monday evening (January 27, 2022, editor’s note)," continues the official, recalling that the challenge is to quickly rebuild all air routes. "In 2019, air travel from France was 66 daily flights, between Paris and Marrakech it was 19 daily flights."
