Morocco Sentences Three to Death for Murder of Scandinavian Tourists

Sentences ranging up to the death penalty have been handed down against the accused of the murder of the two young Scandinavian tourists, in December 2018, in the Imlil region.
Abdessamad El Joud, Younès Ouziad and Rachid Afati were thus sentenced to death, while the 4th accused, Abderrahmane Khayali, will spend the rest of his life in prison, the Criminal Chamber in charge of the Salé Affairs having sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Said Toufiq, Amine Dimane, Abdelaziz Fériat and Kévin Zoller Guervos were sentenced to 20 years in prison. And Bachid Driouch, Rachid Ouali, Mohamed Chakor and Abdeslam Idriss received 15 years in prison, while Ayoub Chellaoui, 18 years.
As for Mohamed Salah, Nourédine Khili, Said Khiyali and Abdellah Ouafi, they were sentenced to 12 years in prison, 8 years in prison with a fine of 10,000 dirhams, 6 years and 5 years in prison respectively, reports the MAP.
The 4 main accused must also pay the sum of 2 million dirhams, as compensation, to the civil party.
The accused were prosecuted for "forming a gang to prepare and commit terrorist acts, attacking the lives of people with premeditation, possession of firearms and attempted manufacture of explosives in violation of the law, as part of a collective project aimed at seriously undermining public order".
