Morocco Sends 39 Tons of Aid to Cyclone-Stricken Mozambique

Significant humanitarian aid has just been sent by the Moroccan authorities to Mozambique, hit by Cyclone Idai which struck the country on March 14 and 15, causing significant material and human damage.
This emergency humanitarian aid was ordered by King Mohammed VI, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which specifies that a humanitarian aid of 39 tons, consisting of 200 tents, 2000 blankets and basic food products, was handed over to the Mozambican authorities by the Moroccan ambassador to Maputo, Abdelali Rahali.
The Moroccan diplomat said that a second delivery is to be made this week, adding that "this gesture of solidarity represents a strong and sincere expression of Morocco’s African policy based on mutual aid and support".
The action follows the international appeal for aid launched by the Mozambican authorities, to express Morocco’s permanent solidarity with the populations of this African country mourning a particularly severe natural disaster, it is further stated.
In total, more than 250 people have died and 200 others are still missing in Zimbabwe due to the cyclone, which also affected Malawi.
