Morocco Seizes Record 843 Tons of Cannabis, 3 Tons of Cocaine in 2021 Drug Crackdown

In 2021, drug and illicit product seizures have sharply increased in Morocco, representing a total of 843 tons of cannabis and derivatives and about 3 tons of cocaine. In total, 99,761 cases related to drug trafficking were processed.
In a letter addressed to parliament, Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit indicated that the crackdown on drug traffickers and illicit products was productive last year.
In addition to the 843 tons of cannabis and 3 tons of cocaine seized, the anti-drug forces seized 6 kg of heroin and more than 1,615,570 hallucinogenic tablets.
Furthermore, the minister stressed that the national fight against drug trafficking is based on three pillars. These are the continuous limitation of drugs, the limitation of demand and finally awareness-raising. This strategy makes it possible to reduce on a daily basis this traffic harmful to the national economy, he explained.
