Morocco Sees Uptick in Covid-19 Cases, Raising Concerns of Potential Resurgence

After a continuous decline for several months, the curve of Covid-19 infections is taking the opposite direction in Morocco. The number of positive cases and hospitalizations have slightly increased in recent days, raising the concern of many Moroccans.
According to data from the Ministry of Health, the kingdom is experiencing an epidemic rebound. On Tuesday, more than 135 new infections were reported in 24 hours, while the figures did not exceed 50 cases just a few days ago. The occupancy rate of intensive care beds has also increased from 0.2% to 0.4% in one week.
In a statement to the Map, the coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, Mouad Mrabet, indicated that this increase needs to be closely monitored. "Not surprisingly, Covid-19 cases have seen an increase in recent days. The figures are not worrying, as the positivity rate has gone from less than 1% to 1.5%, but we must closely monitor this situation," he explained.
He also stressed that "we must also monitor the criticality of Covid-19 cases. "Apart from the increase in infection cases, we must monitor the criticality of this increase and know if there will also be an increase in serious cases," he specified.
According to the scientist, Morocco is not the only one facing this resurgence of cases. Several countries are facing the same situation, especially with the resumption of flights and the relaxation of barrier measures. In this regard, Mrabet recommends vigilance and the importance of continuing the booster dose of vaccination.
