Morocco Sees 24% Surge in Winter Tourism, Welcoming 2.7 Million Visitors

Morocco welcomed 2.7 million tourists in the first two months of 2025, an increase of 24% compared to the same period in 2024. A performance recorded in the low season, to the delight of professionals who hope that this momentum will be maintained throughout the year.
Does Morocco still have a low season? In two months, the kingdom recorded the arrival of 2.7 million visitors, an additional 521,000 arrivals compared to 2024. Record figures achieved in the middle of the low season, generally quieter than the summer season, notes the daily Les Inspirations Éco.
"There is always a distinction between low and high season, particularly by observing the occupancy rate of hotel establishments. As long as we do not reach a critical threshold, the notion of low season remains. However, these results are extremely encouraging," explains Hamid Bentahar, president of the National Confederation of Tourism (CNT), quoted by the daily.
According to the figures of the National Tourism Observatory, flagship destinations like Marrakech recorded an occupancy rate of 63% in January, up 8% year-on-year. The same trend is observed with regard to overnight stays, which crossed the 2 million mark in January, an increase of 16% compared to 2024. Tourism revenues reached nearly 9 billion dirhams in January.
With this performance, Morocco is establishing itself as an essential tourist destination. "Half a million additional visitors in just two months, it’s a strong signal. Each tourist directly contributes to the economic development of our regions, to job creation and the integration of young people," rejoices Fatim-Zahra Ammor, the Minister of Tourism.
For their part, industry professionals call for structural investments to maintain this momentum throughout the year. They are particularly requesting the construction of conference centers in cities like Casablanca and Marrakech in order to attract a business clientele throughout the year. "These infrastructures are essential to perpetuate the current momentum and amplify it, especially as major events are coming up," says the president of the CNT.
