Morocco Sees Surge in Sub-Saharan African Students, Especially in Private Universities

The number of foreign students in Morocco continues to increase. This increase is more noticeable, particularly in private institutions, which currently have up to 40% sub-Saharan students.
The number of foreign students enrolled in the various higher education institutions in Morocco stands at 20,500. The vast majority, over 85%, come from sub-Saharan African countries, according to the Challenge magazine.
More than 12,000 students are mainly enrolled in the public system, the same source indicates. It also specifies that the scientific and technical fields, including the health sector, are at the top with nearly 8,500 enrollments.
These foreign students come mainly from Gabon, which has almost doubled its flows to Morocco, from Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal. The same source argues that the arrival of these foreign students has accelerated in recent years, with an ever-increasing number of sub-Saharan youth heading to private institutions.
