Morocco Sees Surge in COVID-19 Cases, Government Urges Caution

Due to the epidemiological situation related to the coronavirus pandemic in Morocco in recent days, the Head of Government, Saad Dine El Otmani, calls on the population to be more vigilant and cautious. Over the past two weeks, the kingdom has recorded an increase in cases of contamination and active cases, as well as an increase in critical cases and a high occupancy rate in hospitals.
In view of this worrying picture presented by the Minister of Health, based on the analysis of the figures and data on the epidemiological situation in recent weeks, the government has decided to resume its weekly meetings in remote mode. This is the best way to indicate to the population the seriousness of the situation, informs a press release published at the end of the Council.
Also, El Otmani once again called on Moroccans, institutions and actors to be more vigilant and to respect the preventive measures in force to avoid any relapse, as can be seen in several countries.

El Otmani also reported the adoption at the last Council of Ministers, among other things, of the draft framework law on tax reform and the draft framework law on the reform of public establishments and enterprises (EPP). These texts, developed by the sectors concerned, will soon be submitted to parliament, announced the Head of Government, specifying that they will strengthen the legal arsenal developed by the executive and adopted for the most part by parliament, such as the framework law on social protection and the framework law on the reform of the education and training system.
All this work will facilitate the development of necessary laws, to bring together the conditions and mechanisms for post-coronavirus economic recovery, in addition to other important economic and social reforms. All these actions aim to get the country out of the Covid-19 pandemic and overcome its economic and social impacts, stressed El Otmani, noting that many sectors are already starting to recover.
It is all these achievements that currently earn the country great respect and esteem from all its international partners, welcomed the Head of Government, who also recalled the launch of the operation to return Moroccans living abroad (Marhaba 2021), which benefited from the mobilization of all stakeholders, and particularly, the drop in maritime and air fares. And the Head of Government urged all stakeholders to continue their efforts for the success of the operation.
