Morocco Sees 65% Recovery in International Air Travel as Expats Return Home

Thanks to the return of Moroccans living abroad (MRE) to Morocco, international air traffic has rebounded at Moroccan airports during the period from June 15 to August 31, 2021. The National Airports Office (ONDA) reports that more than 3.5 million passengers were welcomed through 31,202 international flights.
The international commercial traffic of Moroccan airports has recovered 65% of passengers and 77% of movements compared to the same period in 2019, ONDA specifies in its report. This performance was achieved thanks to special flights scheduled among other things to facilitate the return of MREs to Morocco. In total, 1,457,154 international passengers (recovery rate of 58% compared to 2019 traffic) arrived at Casablanca-Mohammed V airport, the largest volume. There are 565,680 (46%) of these passengers who landed at Marrakech airport, details the office.
As for the recovery rates, they are 133% for Tetouan, 127% for Nador, 114% for Tangier, 106% for Al Hoceima and 105% for Oujda. Regarding traffic with Europe and North America, the recovery rates are 74% and 65% respectively, compared to 2019 traffic.
France, Spain, Belgium, Italy and Germany occupy the top five places in the ranking of this traffic. In total, 45 international airlines have operated flights to and from Morocco. Among them, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Air Arabia Maroc, Ryanair, TUI, Air France, El Al and Israel. Moroccan airports have been connected to 101 international airports throughout this period.
