Morocco Sees Exodus of Military Service Candidates as Spain Reports Surge in Arrivals

Several candidates summoned for military service would have chosen to leave Morocco. This situation is now worrying the Spanish authorities who have noted an increase in arrivals from the kingdom.
The daily Al Massae reports that a significant number of candidates summoned for compulsory military service have chosen to flee towards Spanish lands. This setback comes at a time when the Ministry of the Interior is awaiting receipt of certificates of unfitness, following the closure of the registration phase.
The ministry had threatened sanctions against all offenders, recalling that disciplinary measures would be taken against candidates who did not present a valid justification. It had also drawn the attention of the officers in charge of the summons to the possible falsification of military service exemption certificates.
Recall that the registration operation, which takes place over a two-month period, took effect on April 9 and should result in the selection of the first class of conscripts who will begin their military service in September.
