Morocco Sees 33% Drop in COVID-19 Cases, Signaling End of Third Wave

After several months of stress and panic, Moroccans can rejoice in the significant drop in positive Covid-19 cases. These data recorded over the past two weeks signal the end of the third wave of infections nationwide. The Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced this during the presentation of the biweekly report on the epidemiological situation in Morocco.
Abdelkrim Meziane Bellefquih, head of the communicable diseases division at the Ministry of Health, said that the decrease in coronavirus infections reached 33% during the period from October 25 to November 8, 2021, with the weekly report (1,251 cases) being the lowest recorded in more than 5 months.
He also stressed that Morocco has experienced a generalized decline in positive cases in all regions of the Kingdom for four consecutive weeks, which have moreover turned green with less than 25 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. As for the virus reproduction rate (R0), it has fallen to remain also below the bar of 1 (0.87 for last Sunday) and confirm the trend observed in recent weeks, noted Dr. Meziane Bellefquih.
The official at the Ministry of Health specified that the serious cases and deaths mainly concern the elderly, those suffering from chronic diseases, pregnant women. These cases are also recorded among unvaccinated people and in some people whose vaccination has exceeded 6 months. This, according to Meziane Bellefquih, reveals the need for a 3rd dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Morocco needs to stay green for a return to normal life. To this end, the head of the communicable diseases division at the Ministry of Health calls on citizens to maintain strict compliance with the preventive measures in force, so that the kingdom can safeguard the precious achievements made after long sacrifices.
