Morocco Sees Decline in Terrorism Cases, Official Report Shows

The terrorist threat in Morocco tends to be less strong in the last two years, according to the second Annual Report of the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office on the implementation of the criminal policy. The document provides information on the number of defendants in terrorist acts. According to this Report, 337 people were referred in 2018, compared to 358 in 2017.
The Report indicates that only 66% of these cases led to a trial, while 14% of the cases were dismissed.
Of the acts committed in 2018, the perpetrators guilty of crimes of apology and incitement are in the lead, with 107 legal proceedings. Those involved in crimes related to extreme violence, the manufacture and possession of weapons follow with 19 trials. As for the persons implicated in the financing of terrorist acts, they number 18. Those linked to terrorist groups close the march with 13 trials.
Targeted in the past by these terrorist threats, like other countries, Morocco has managed to thwart the attack plans of the terrorists, through the dismantling of several cells. This success is explained by the preventive strategy put in place by the various services, in particular the Central Office of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), the National Brigade of the Judicial Police and the Royal Gendarmerie.
For greater efficiency in the fight against terrorist acts, increased participation in seminars and training related to the fight against terrorism, both in Morocco and abroad, is announced. In this regard, the Public Prosecutor’s Office near the Court of Appeal of Rabat has become an active member of the "Quadripartite Agreement".
