Morocco Seeks Israeli ’Iron Dome’ System Amid Sahara Conflict Tensions

Morocco is considering acquiring the "Iron Dome" anti-missile defense system from Israel to defend itself against any attack by the Polisario Front in the Sahara, and also from Algeria.
Morocco wants to buy this Israeli system to counter any possible attack by the Polisario Front in the Sahara and in other "sensitive civilian and military areas", reports the news site Ynet. The "Iron Dome" is capable of intercepting about 90% of the missiles fired on the territory.
The conflict with the separatist army in the Sahara has been going on for decades. The two parties agreed to a ceasefire in 1991 under the auspices of the United Nations, which agreement was broken on November 13, 2020 after a deployment of the Royal Armed Forces in Guerguerat.

Moreover, Morocco maintains very tense relations with Algeria, the main supporter of the Polisario Front in the Sahara conflict, which broke off diplomatic relations with the kingdom in September. The crisis between the two countries intensified last week with the death of three Algerian truckers, which the Algerian authorities blame on Morocco.
