Morocco Secures Wheat Supply Amid Global Price Surge and Ukraine Conflict

In a context marked by the rise in commodity prices, Morocco has sufficient wheat stocks, thanks to the supply mechanisms put in place by the government.
Speaking at the press conference following the meeting of the Council of Government, government spokesman Mustapha Baitas indicated that Morocco has managed to mitigate the effects of the economic situation related to the Russian-Ukrainian tension.
In addition to the measures concerning the rise in fuel prices, the executive has guaranteed, through a well-defined mechanism, the abundance of wheat and in particular soft wheat used in the manufacture of flour, the minister stressed.
According to him, the government subsidy intended for this vital commodity so that it reaches the mills at a price of 260 dh per quintal has seen a strong increase, specifying that it has gone from 71 dh last January to nearly 200 dh per quintal currently.
The national wheat stock currently covers nearly four months of consumption. The government will continue to subsidize this essential commodity in the national food regime to support the purchasing power of citizens, despite exogenous shocks, Baitas assured.
