Morocco Secures Covid-19 Vaccine Deals with Sinopharm and AstraZeneca, Eyes Pfizer

Prime Minister Saâdeddine El Othmani said on Tuesday that Morocco has placed orders for two Covid-19 vaccines that are in phase 3 of clinical trials and is also in talks with other laboratories.
The head of the executive said this in an interview with Reuters. According to El Othmani, the first concerns the vaccine developed by the Chinese company Sinopharm. It could be deployed as early as December. A second order has been placed with AstraZeneca, which is still in the phase 3 trial stage of its vaccine. Talks are underway with Pfizer, whose test results have been very promising. "We will seek doses from three to four companies," El Othmani said. He stressed that "the vaccination campaign will last at least three months," without specifying the expected cost of this program.
The vaccine is becoming an urgent issue, especially with the increase in cases of contamination. This Thursday, November 19, Morocco recorded 4,559 new cases of contamination, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 311,554 with a mortality rate of 1.6% and a recovery rate of 82.5%.
