Morocco Safe for Tourists, Travel Experts Say, Despite UK Warning

While the British Foreign Office had described the possibility of terrorist acts in Morocco as "very likely", thus warning the British (and others) wishing to go there, The Telegraph, a British media, now says the opposite!

The Telegraph cites experts to support its point of view. Thus the floor is given to Steph Millington, product manager at "Intrepid Travel", who, while noting that almost three-quarters of her clientele are women, stated that there is nothing to fear in Morocco, provided, however, that certain instructions are followed.

The latter states: "As with all travel, it is important to use common sense... to dress more modestly, to respect local customs and cultures, to avoid isolated areas and to avoid traveling alone on public transport, but it is quite similar to other regions of Europe". For her, the danger in Morocco is the same as in London or Paris.

Millington also explains why travel to Morocco is almost risk-free by saying: "Morocco relies on its tourism industry and tourists are generally well protected". And to be well protected, they are, this one listing some existing (and apparent) devices: police checks on all roads, tourist brigades in major tourist cities, 24-hour security guards around hotels and tourist sites.

But... There is a but... Steph Millington advises the British against the Issaguen region, "the Moroccan capital of marijuana", a warning rather addressed to solo women. Not really a "but" after all.

Let’s remember that the British authorities have recently again warned their nationals against "an increased threat of terrorist attack" stating in this regard that it is "very likely that terrorists will attempt attacks in Morocco. Be vigilant at all times". Previously, this file only contained the "likely" hypothesis.
