Morocco Rolls Out High-Tech Speed Cameras to Crack Down on Traffic Violations

The "new generation" speed cameras announced by the Ministry of Transport are already operational in many Moroccan cities, ready to issue fines for a range of offenses.
These devices, equipped with several functionalities, are now visible on the main roads since the beginning of the week, reports H24Info.
They were installed to detect offenses such as "speeding, non-compliance with average speed, crossing of continuous lines and non-compliance with a red light," explained Fouad Naciri, an official at NARSA, according to whom the cameras can identify up to 24 vehicles simultaneously.
Regarding fines in case of an offense, the official stressed that "no increase has been introduced", thus rejecting the rumors circulating in public opinion.
Furthermore, the processing of speed camera-related infractions will be outsourced and entrusted to Albarid Bank and Barid Cash agencies. In this regard, a campaign related to the control of offenses linked to the new speed cameras will be launched, he said.
