Morocco Road Safety Crisis: 22 Deaths and Over 1,800 Injuries in One Week

During the week of August 31 to September 6, there were 1,352 traffic accidents in urban areas. 22 people died on Moroccan roads and 1,869 others were injured, including 57 seriously.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) indicated that these accidents are caused by impatience, non-compliance with the highway code, driving under the influence of alcohol and inattention.
Regarding control and repression operations, the security services recorded 36,276 fines and drew up 9,698 reports that were submitted to the public prosecutor’s office. Similarly, 26,578 transactional fines were collected.
According to the DGSN, the sum of 5,513,200 dirhams was collected, as well as the impounding of 4,087 vehicles, the seizure of 5,496 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 124 vehicles.
