Morocco Road Safety Crisis: 19 Dead, Over 2,000 Injured in Week-Long Surge of Traffic Accidents

During the week from February 24 to March 1, 19 people were killed, 2,090 others were injured, including 90 seriously injured in 1,584 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas. This is the report made public by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
This high number of road accidents is mainly due to driver inattention and non-compliance with the highway code. With regard to control operations and the repression of offenses, the security services recorded 50,137 fines and drew up 12,912 reports that were submitted to the public prosecutor’s office.
Similarly, 37,225 transaction fines were collected and the sums received amounted to 7,545,625 dirhams, noted the DGSN. And that’s not all. 4,575 vehicles were impounded, 8,096 documents seized and 241 vehicles taken off the road.
