Morocco Road Safety Crisis: 21 Dead, Over 2,000 Injured in Urban Traffic Accidents

During the first week of March, 21 people were killed and 2,211 others were injured, including 67 seriously, in 1,652 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas. This is the assessment made on Tuesday by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
Driver inattention, failure to yield the right-of-way, speeding, pedestrian inattention, driving under the influence, and failure to obey traffic signals are among the causes of these traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas in one week.
Regarding control and enforcement operations, the security services recorded 47,482 violations and drew up 12,233 reports that were submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, while 35,249 transactional fines were collected.
As for the amounts collected, they reached 7,158,475 dirhams, noted the DGSN, while stressing that 4,712 vehicles were impounded in municipal pounds, 7,284 documents were seized, and 237 vehicles were taken off the road.
