Morocco Road Safety Crisis: 17 Dead, Nearly 2,000 Injured in One Week

During the week of October 28 to November 3, 17 people were killed and 1,956 others were injured, including 93 seriously, in 1,451 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

The inattention of drivers and pedestrians, failure to yield the right-of-way, speeding, changing direction without using a signal, not respecting the safety distance, loss of control, unauthorized lane changes, and driving under the influence of alcohol are, among others, the reasons behind these figures recorded in one week.

Regarding control operations and the repression of offenses, the Security services report having recorded 51,310 violations and drawn up 13,804 reports, while 37,506 transaction fines were collected.

As for the sums collected, they reached 7,546,275 dirhams, according to the Security services, who report the impounding of 4,898 vehicles, the seizure of 8,620 documents and the withdrawal from circulation of 286 vehicles.
