Morocco’s Rif Region to Get New University Campus, Meeting Key Hirak Protest Demand

One of the priority demands raised by the protesters of the Hirak of the Rif is about to be met. A partnership agreement was signed on October 30 in Al Hoceima for the creation of a multidisciplinary faculty and a National School of Commerce and Management (ENCG) in the commune of Aït Kamra.
At the forefront of the demands of the Hirak of the Rif, the construction of higher education institutions was eagerly awaited in a region that does not have any.
A point that Saïd Amzazi, Moroccan Minister of Education, underlined, mentioning the some 5,000 young people from the province who continue their studies in the establishments of the Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, in the cities of Tétouan, Tangier and Larache.
"This campus will allow young people in the province to receive quality training and promote scientific research at the local level," added Saïd Amzazi.
Two higher education institutions will therefore be created in the province of Al Hoceima and the work will be launched in the coming weeks in the commune of Aït Kamra.
The two establishments will be built on a total area of about 50 hectares, 15 of which will be dedicated to the ENCG. It will have a capacity of 2,700 places, while 25 hectares are planned for the multidisciplinary faculty which will accommodate around 4,000 students.
The city of Al Hoceima will become "a university hub in its own right," the Minister said, also mentioning the construction of a university city that will allow students in the province to pursue their university studies under better conditions.
The Minister also announced that the university establishments of the province of Al Hoceima will be regrouped, with a view to creating an integrated university complex.
