Morocco Revokes Travel Document for Controversial Imam, Blocking Deportation from France

Morocco has not yet given its agreement to allow the imam Hassan Iquioussen to be welcomed on its territory. The consular laissez-passer issued for this purpose was suspended on Tuesday evening.
According to Moroccan diplomatic sources, the preacher is not yet welcome in Morocco. If he is arrested, Iquioussen can no longer be deported for the moment, because the official reception document held by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin is no longer valid. It has been suspended, reports Europe1.
According to the sources cited by the media, this consular laissez-passer, an essential passport for expelling a foreigner in an irregular situation, was issued by Morocco on August 1. Valid for 60 days, it should allow France to hand over the imam to the Moroccan law enforcement authorities.
In response, a source at the French Ministry of the Interior declared: "it would be incomprehensible that this document, which has no other function than to formalize Morocco’s recognition of Hassan Iquioussen’s nationality, be suspended. How can you recognize the nationality of one of your nationals one day and no longer recognize it the next day?"
