Morocco Restricts Travel Between 8 Cities as COVID-19 Cases Surge

The government banned travel between 8 cities from midnight on Sunday, July 26. In a video, the Head of Government, Saâdeddine El Othmani, discussed this decision which does not have the unanimous support of citizens and merchants.
This joint decision of the Ministry of the Interior and Health was taken "due to the increase in the number of cases of contamination", recalls the head of government.
Continuing his explanation, the Prime Minister expressed alarm at the increase in critical cases but also in deaths, "up to eight in recent days". According to him, the current situation is such that "difficult measures" will have to be taken to curb the pandemic.
As for the choice of cities, Saâd-Eddine El Othmani explained that this decision is not motivated by the number of cases recorded in these cities, but rather by the fear that the virus will spread to cities that are little or not affected, due to non-compliance with the security measures inherent to the health crisis.
The Prime Minister also wished the families a good holiday but at home, without having to travel in order not to risk contaminating their family, "their elderly parents", "people suffering from chronic diseases" in the event that the carriers would be asymptomatic. "If we don’t help each other, and the cases continue to increase, everyone will lose," he warned.
