Morocco Reports Surge in COVID-19 Cases with Over 1,100 Active Outbreaks

The epidemiological situation in the Kingdom has skyrocketed in recent weeks. Up to September 16, 1,121 active coronavirus outbreaks have been recorded, said Health Minister Khalid Ait Taleb.
Until mid-June, less than 8,000 cases of coronavirus infection had been recorded, with 200 deaths and the number of critical cases stabilizing. "The rebound in cases was recorded after Morocco moved to the 3rd phase of deconfinement," Ait Taleb said before the Social Sectors Commission of the House of Representatives.
Also, the health authorities have taken strong actions: the establishment of a central commission responsible for monitoring the epidemiological situation, the examination of means to strengthen the fight procedures, the deployment of field hospitals with the necessary equipment, as well as the rehabilitation and establishment of new laboratories dedicated to coronavirus analysis and screening.
"The situation is worrying, but under control. We are striving to effectively control the situation and prevent the spread of the pandemic," Mr. Ait Taleb reassured, while urging citizens to respect the necessary preventive and proactive measures.
According to the government official, the recorded cases of infection are mostly mild and asymptomatic. Proof of this, the number of recovered patients is almost the same as that of new cases recorded in the centers in one day.
The time has come to respect the barrier procedures and strengthen the preventive measures, as well as the continuous evaluation of the epidemiological situation in each region, concluded Ait Taleb.
