Abdelkrim Meziane Bellefquih, head of the communicable diseases division, says the infection rate has seen a significant increase (+12.05%). He calls for more vigilance to avoid any resurgence of the spread of the virus.
During the presentation of the monthly report on the epidemiological situation in Morocco, Abdelkrim Meziane Bellefquih indicated that the number of deaths recorded a decrease of 18.2% over the last two weeks (June 8-21), reports the MAP. He said that the infection rate has seen a significant increase (+12.05%), but the positivity rate has recorded a slight decrease, from 3.87% to 3.31%. As for active cases, they rose to 3,732, compared to 3,165 two weeks earlier (+18%).
While the number of critical cases admitted to intensive care units remained stable, the number of patients on ventilation decreased by 50% during the same period, the official said. According to him, the epidemiological situation remains under control. However, he calls for more vigilance to avoid any resurgence of the spread of the virus.
He also assured that the vaccination campaign against the coronavirus continues for the 21st week and that the quantities of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine received last weekend will give "a strong impetus" to this operation.
He points out that the return of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) for the summer vacation will lead to social dynamics that could be accompanied by an acceleration of the circulation of the virus. For Abdelkrim Meziane Bellefquih, this is a "major challenge". Salvation will come through maintaining commitment to make the vaccination campaign a success and the imperative of strict compliance with preventive measures.
