Morocco Reports Slight Decline in Road Fatalities, but Accidents Rise

The number of fatal road accidents in Morocco has seen a slight decline with 3,384 deaths in 2019.
The provisional statistics presented on Friday in Rabat by the Minister of Transport, Abdelkader Amara, indicate that nearly 3,010 fatal accidents were recorded in 2019, in which 3,384 people died, a decrease of 2.9%. The number of injured was set at 8,417 during the same period (-3.53%).
According to the same source, road accidents remain on a constant rise with a total of 102,737 accidents in 2019, an increase of 6.9%.
The minister further added that these figures do not reflect the ambitions of the Executive. In this sense, he called for strong mobilization of all stakeholders to put an end to this scourge and achieve the objectives of the 2017-2026 National Road Safety Strategy. This strategy aims to reduce the number of road deaths by 25% by 2021, and by 50% by 2026.
While calling for more vigilance on the part of drivers, the minister invited to raise awareness, educate and inform the younger generations about the dangers of the road and to initiate them into good reflexes from an early age.
