Morocco Reports Sharp Drop in COVID-19 Deaths Following Expanded Vaccination Effort

While the number of coronavirus infections and people in intensive care is increasing, the number of deaths has dropped considerably in Morocco. This is since the expansion of the vaccination campaign to certain vulnerable social groups of the population, as revealed by an official from the Moroccan Ministry of Health.
According to Said Affif of the vaccination committee of the Moroccan Ministry of Health, the number of deaths due to Covid-19 in Morocco has dropped considerably since February 24, when chronically ill and civilians aged 60 to 64 were vaccinated.
Launched at the end of January in the kingdom, the first phase of the vaccination campaign did not take into account people working in the health, education and security sectors, and vulnerable elderly people. In this population group, Covid-19 has caused the most damage and since this group is now largely vaccinated, the number of deaths from coronavirus has decreased, Said Affif explained at length, confident that the country is thus leading the race to vaccination towards herd immunity.
Note that more than 95% of vaccinations administered on the African continent have taken place in Morocco.
Said Affif took the opportunity to urge the population to continue, despite the success, to observe preventive measures against the virus to protect themselves from the British variant detected in 40 people, mostly in the southern region.
In his communication, he recalled that vaccinated people are still able to transmit the virus, because the dose inoculated only guarantees that the virus carrier does not get sick. And for this reason, the expert advises, it is important that everyone remains vigilant and, for example, continues to wear a mask until at least 80% of the population is vaccinated.
