Morocco Reports Polisario Violations to UN, Citing Military Exercises in Western Sahara

In a letter sent to the United Nations Secretary-General, the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN, Omar Hilale, has once again denounced the provocations of the Polisario.
With photos in support, Hilale reports three violations since the beginning of the year:
— On January 6, 2019, the armed militias of the ’Polisario’ organized military maneuvers and combat exercises, with heavy equipment and live ammunition, in the locality of Mheiriz, east of the defense system in the Moroccan Sahara.
— On January 7, 2019, the ’Polisario’ proceeded to the displacement of a so-called ’administrative structure’ in this same locality of Mheiriz.
— On January 8, 2019, the ’Polisario’ deployed two military vehicles in the buffer zone of Guergarate.
Strongly condemning these acts which violate the Military Agreement, Morocco believes that they "dangerously threaten the ceasefire" and that they are "manifestly an affront to the Security Council and a challenge to its authority".
"These actions constitute a flagrant violation of the provisions of Resolution 2414 of April 27, 2018, by which the Security Council ordered the ’Polisario’ to withdraw immediately from the Guerguerate buffer zone and ordered it not to engage in destabilizing acts of displacement of administrative structures east of the defense system in the Moroccan Sahara," writes Hilale.
Moreover, these violations transgress Resolution 2440 of October 31, 2018, by which the Security Council took note "of the assurances" provided by the "Polisario" to the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General not to move administrative structures in the Sahara and of its willingness to fulfill its obligations with regard to the Guerguerate buffer zone, in accordance with Resolution 2414.
Morocco, he writes, cannot tolerate the recurrence of these provocations which seriously threaten regional peace and security and compromise the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, calling on them, as well as MINURSO, to condemn these violations and demand that the "Polisario" stop them immediately, implement its commitments and respect the resolutions of the Security Council.
