Morocco Reports Over 1,400 COVID-19 Cases in Schools Since Reopening

The Minister of National Education, Saaïd Amzazi, stated that since the beginning of the school year, nearly 1,400 students have tested positive for Coronavirus. He made this announcement on Monday, October 12, before the House of Representatives.
Despite the many precautions and awareness-raising on compliance with preventive gestures, Covid-19 has not spared Moroccan schools. In addition to the 1,400 cases of contamination recorded at the student level, more than 1,500 positive cases have been detected at the level of teachers and supervisory staff. These include 807 teachers, 245 educational staff and 158 administrative staff. Yet the ministry had proceeded to close 210 establishments, following the declaration of several outbreaks of contamination.
The Minister of Education pointed out that control visits carried out in 300 private schools and 4,500 public establishments have made it possible to understand that this rate of contamination is due to non-compliance with the health protocol.
