Morocco Reports Low COVID-19 Positivity Rate in Schools, New Strain Under Investigation

The screening operation carried out in high schools and middle schools in Morocco, following the appearance of the new strain of the coronavirus, revealed a positivity rate of 2% compared to a normal rate of 6.5%. A genomic analysis is underway to determine the strain of the virus.
The Minister of National Education, Saaid Amzazi, announced this during a presentation made last Tuesday, before the Commission on Education, Culture and Communication in the House of Representatives. The ministry has observed greater transmission among young people, and has therefore requested the Ministry of Health, which has launched a screening operation of 30,000 middle and high school students in 6 regions of Morocco.
Saaid Amzazi stressed that the coronavirus infection rate among students does not exceed 0.06% and 2.93% among teaching and administrative staff. Good news nonetheless, the clusters have disappeared from Moroccan schools.
