Morocco Reports Few Clotting Cases After AstraZeneca Vaccine, Officials Reassure Public

While the controversy is raging around the use of the British vaccine Astrazeneca, Moroccan health officials are playing the card of reassurance. The national pharmacovigilance center says the country has recorded only a small number of cases of thrombosis after vaccination. However, any possibility of establishing a causal link is ruled out.
The director of the Moroccan Anti-Poison and Pharmacovigilance Center, Professor Rachida Soulaymani, explained that in Morocco, there have been a small number of reports of incidents related to blood clotting after vaccination, reports Al Massae. She said that analyses are underway to determine if there is a link between the vaccine and these thrombosis incidents. In short, there is no evidence that these complications are caused by the vaccine.
According to Professor Soulaymani, the complications due to blood clots are caused by several factors, including age, regardless of the vaccine. The older the person, the more they are exposed to this type of complication, she explains, stressing that it is a common pathology whose risk is accentuated by other diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases or hypertension. The director of the Moroccan Anti-Poison and Pharmacovigilance Center also assures that this phenomenon is not only related to the Covid-19 vaccine but to all vaccines in general.
In Europe, where several countries such as France, Germany and Italy have suspended the use of the Astrazeneca vaccine, the official indicates that it is a matter of reports of cases of thrombosis. However, no link between these cases and the vaccine has yet been established.
