Morocco Reports 5% Drop in Violent Crime, Police Data Shows

Violent crimes such as physical or sexual assaults, aggravated thefts, and premeditated assault and battery have declined significantly in Morocco. According to the Police Director, the indicators for this type of crime represent only 8.9%, contrary to information that has circulated on social networks.
Crime indicators have fallen by 5.25% between January 1 and September 15, 2019 compared to last year. Among the crimes that have recorded a decline are aggravated thefts, which have decreased by 5.24%, especially those committed with weapons and thefts with violence.
Even better, the operations carried out by the security services in this context have led to the arrest of 23,757 individuals, including 465 women and 2,097 minors, persons prosecuted by the justice system for their alleged involvement in street robbery crimes.
According to Dkhissi, it is noteworthy that the police have dismantled 332 criminal networks operating in street robberies, arrested 652 people, seized 102 bladed weapons, 33 vehicles and 22 motorcycles.
And, contrary to the information circulating on social networks, the Casablanca police prefecture noted a notable 6% decrease in violent crimes, or 577 fewer cases, as well as a 66% decrease in Rabat, with 4,930 fewer cases, while the decline was 27.12% in Fez, with 715 fewer cases.
