Morocco Reports 30% Drop in Baccalaureate Exam Cheating, High Turnout

Cheating has dropped sharply during the baccalaureate exams in Morocco. This is what the Ministry of National Education has just affirmed, speaking of a 30% drop.

The total number of candidates present is 385,981, a attendance rate of 97.2% for enrolled candidates and 62% for free candidates, the ministry notes in a statement, noting that these rates reflect the strong enthusiasm to take the exams this session, whether for enrolled candidates or free candidates.

Awaiting the results, the ministry has made a mid-term assessment. In a statement, it stressed that out of the 385,981 candidates "870 from penitentiary institutions took the exams of this session, as well as 539 others, in a situation of disability". These candidates, despite the particular nature of their situation, "benefited from adaptation formulas for the tests, in application of the organizational measures in force in the procedure book for the organization of the baccalaureate exams," it is stated in a statement, which specifies that "12 candidates affected by the coronavirus were able to take the tests in centers created at the level of field hospitals in the regions of Ben Slimane, Sidi Yahya El Gharb and Benguerir".

The correction of the tests has been launched at the level of 375 centers in which 31,282 teacher-correctors are distributed, in strict compliance with the preventive health measures. The ministry commends the degree of involvement of all stakeholders at various levels, while calling on them "to continue the efforts in the same spirit of responsibility to ensure the success of the remaining stages of this important educational event," the same source said.
