Morocco Reports Decline in COVID-19 Reproduction Rate as Cases Drop

In its weekly statement on the epidemiological situation, both in Morocco and internationally, the Ministry of Health indicated on Tuesday that the virus reproduction rate has decreased over the week from August 24 to 30.

The decrease in the virus reproduction rate means that Morocco is in the descending phase of the epidemic curve, explained the coordinator of the National Public Health Emergency Operations Center at the Ministry of Health. According to Mouad Mrabet, 9,050 new cases were recorded, including 42 imported cases, and 223 deaths. The number of recovered people is 10,012. The official specified that "the weekly infection rate has dropped from 27 to 25 per 100,000 inhabitants," reports the MAP.

The geographical distribution of contamination cases during the past week varies from one region to another. While the Guelmim-Oued Noun and Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra regions recorded less than 100 cases, the Oriental, Sous-Massa and Dakhla Oued Ed-Dahab regions recorded between 100 and 500 cases. The Drâa-Tafilalet, Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Fès-Meknès and Béni Mellal-Khénifra regions had between 500 and 1,000 cases of contamination, while the Casablanca-Settat and Marrakech-Safi regions recorded more than 1,000 cases.

Regarding Morocco’s epidemiological situation compared to other countries in the world, the coordinator stressed that Morocco ranks 46th in terms of the number of cases and even in terms of the number of deaths. In terms of screening, Morocco is in 31st place.

Finally, he called for compliance with preventive measures to reduce the number of contamination cases, the same source specifies.
