During the week of January 28 to February 3, 2019, the police recorded 1,321 traffic accidents in urban areas, resulting in the deaths of 19 people and injuring 1,695 people, including 65 seriously.
The accidents are due to driver inattention, failure to yield, speeding, pedestrian recklessness, changing direction without prior warning, failure to stop, loss of vehicle control, unauthorized lane changes, unauthorized overtaking, driving under the influence, driving in the wrong direction and failure to stop at a red light, explains the DGSN.
During the same period, the police recorded 34,336 traffic violations and drew up 10,703 reports that were submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, while 23,633 amicable fines were collected.
As for the amounts collected, they amounted to 5,217,000 dirhams during this period, while 4,070 vehicles were impounded.
