Morocco Reports 13 Deaths, Over 2,000 Injuries in Week-Long Urban Road Accident Surge

During the week of December 21 to 27, thirteen people were killed and 2,011 others were injured, including 58 seriously, in 1,535 road accidents.
These figures were published on Tuesday by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), which indicated in a press release that these accidents are mainly due to non-compliance with the highway code, driver inattention, failure to yield the right-of-way, speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, improper overtaking and driving in the wrong direction.
As for the control and repression of traffic offenses, 35,139 tickets were recorded by the police services. About 9,574 reports were filed and submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, while 25,565 transactional fines were collected.
During the same period, the DGSN specifies that the sums collected reached 5,447,500 dirhams, while 4,092 vehicles were impounded in the municipal pound, 5,300 documents were withdrawn and 182 vehicles were immobilized.
