Morocco Reports 95% Crime Resolution Rate, Drop in Violent Offenses

The year 2024 was marked by a crime resolution rate of 95% in Morocco, according to data from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). This figure is part of a trend observed over the last eight years. The DGSN’s annual report shows a slight increase in the total number of cases handled, with 755,541 cases in 2024, compared to 738,748 in 2023.

A 10% decrease in violent crimes has been observed. This decline is reflected in a 24% reduction in robberies under threat, a 20% reduction in vehicle thefts, a 12% reduction in robberies with violence, and a 10% reduction in burglaries. Sexual assaults and drug-related offenses also decreased, by 4% and 7% respectively. Bank attacks fell by 45%. Violent crimes account for 7% of the total number of cases, or 49,838 cases. 947 gangs specialized in thefts were dismantled and 1,561 individuals were apprehended during the year.

Regarding drug trafficking, 92,346 cases were handled, leading to 119,692 arrests, a decrease of 7%. The seizures include nearly 124 tons (123 tons and 971 kg) of cannabis resin, 1 ton and 948 kg of cocaine, 16 kg and 53 g of heroin, and 1,429,052 psychotropic tablets, including 773,493 of ecstasy. Cases related to "bofaa" drugs decreased by 47%, while seizures increased by 58%, reaching 8 kg and 331 g. Two drug trafficking operations from Asia, representing 704,000 bottles (containing 70,400 liters) of narcotic substances, were intercepted.

123 irregular immigration networks were dismantled and 32,449 crossing attempts were prevented, including those of 9,250 foreigners. A new modus operandi using social networks to encourage illegal immigration has been identified, leading to the arrest of 50 organizers. Offenses related to modern technologies increased by 6%, with 5,945 cases, not 8,333 as mentioned in the source text, with 3,265 illegal digital content identified. Online sexual blackmail decreased by 23%, with 391 cases handled and 163 arrests. Money laundering cases increased by 27%, with 656 cases handled, 415 properties immobilized, and the seizure of 331 million dirhams.
