Morocco Reports 54 Coronavirus Cases, Signals Shift to Phase 2 of Outbreak

Five new cases tested positive in Morocco on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, bringing the number of infected patients to 54.
During an online press conference, the Minister of Health, in confirming these new cases, announced the appearance of local contaminations, although isolated. For the Moroccan Minister of Health, the appearance of these cases requires great vigilance, and probably announces the end of phase 1 and the entry into phase 2. A total of 10 cases have been confirmed in 24 hours in the kingdom.
He also reassured the public that Morocco has 44 hospitals and 32 consultation centers ready to deal with the epidemic. According to the government member, the current bed capacity is sufficient to take care of the positive cases.
Khalid Aït Taleb also specified that the country has 1,640 intensive care beds, 684 in the public health sector, 504 in the private sector, 70 in the military sector and 130 beds in public utility care centers with a reinforced capacity of 250 new beds.
In addition, the Allo Veille and Samu numbers made available to the public have received more than 2,000 calls, says the Minister of Health. A portal is also being created to allow everyone to follow the evolution of the epidemic and learn about prevention methods.
