Morocco Reports No Confirmed Coronavirus Cases, Monitors Suspected Infections

Despite the extent of the rumors, no case of coronavirus contamination has yet been recorded in Morocco, said Mustapha Ramid, Minister of State in charge of Human Rights and Relations with Parliament, on Monday in Rabat. The country remains on alert and vigilance.
Parliamentarians are concerned about the coronavirus epidemic, which originated in China and is affecting many countries in the world. Mustapha Ramid, during the weekly session of oral questions in the House of Representatives, declared that "the national system of epidemiological surveillance and monitoring has allowed the monitoring of five suspected cases, three of which are related to seasonal flu".
The minister assured the deputies "that all preventive measures have been adopted in order to prevent any risk of spread of the disease". Indeed, a joint commission has been set up for epidemiological surveillance and the taking of necessary measures. It is composed of the Ministry of Health, the Royal Gendarmerie, the military medical services, the Ministry of the Interior, Civil Protection and other stakeholders, reports the MAP.
Regarding preventive measures, he noted that arrangements have been made for the control of border crossings, epidemiological monitoring and vigilance, the management of any potential cases, communication and the care of members of the Moroccan community residing in China.
Moreover, the health vigilance and monitoring system has been strengthened at international airports so that all passengers arriving from China, whether directly or indirectly, are subject to thermal camera control. On site, they also receive awareness-raising and appropriate documentation.
Morocco is aware of the urgency of the situation and is doing everything in its power to keep the country immune to the coronavirus virus. The Ministry of Health has set up a training program for health personnel at the regional and provincial levels, as well as a committee for continuous monitoring of the international epidemiological situation. A list of hospitals dedicated to the reception of potential cases has been established, and protective equipment has been made available to the regions and provinces.
In terms of communication, he continued, the Ministry of Health regularly informs the national public opinion on the evolution of the situation at the national and international level through press releases or directly on various media, or via the green line "Allo Yakada".
Regarding the situation of the 167 Moroccans residing in the Chinese city of Wuhan, who have been repatriated to the country, the minister said he was pleased to learn that they have not been contaminated.
