Morocco to Repatriate 201 Pardoned African Prisoners on Humanitarian Grounds

After being pardoned on Wednesday by King Mohammed VI for humanitarian reasons, the 201 African prisoners will soon return to their respective countries. This is thanks to support provided by the Moroccan state.
According to a statement from the Moroccan Ministry of Justice, "this honorable royal pardon is part of His Majesty’s humane approach, inspired by the clemency and mercy of his grandfather, the Prophet Mohammed, for humanitarian reasons for the benefit of elderly or sick prisoners".
There are a total of 201 African prisoners, of a certain age, suffering from illnesses or who have shown good conduct during their incarceration period.
In the concrete phase of their repatriation, Le360 indicates that the Oukacha prison in Casablanca served as the gathering place for these pardoned prisoners, before their boarding which began on Thursday, on flights departing from Mohammed V International Airport in the metropolis to their respective countries.
To recall, since 2014, Morocco has been the only country in the Maghreb region that, thanks to a royal initiative, has distinguished itself through a series of campaigns to regularize the situation of migrants in the Kingdom.
